Elisabeth Maier, born on March seventeenth, nineteen ninety-four, is a retired Canadian skeleton racer whose journey into sliding sports began at the age of fourteen. Encouraged by her father, who had met members of the Canadian luge team during an airplane trip, she initially sought to train in bobsleigh. However, due to her young age, she opted to try out for skeleton, utilizing a Bromley sled to embark on her athletic career.
Maier's dedication and talent led her to represent Canada at the highest level, culminating in her selection as one of three women to compete in skeleton at the twenty eighteen Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang. Her impressive performance during the 2017-18 World Cup season, where she finished third in the standings, solidified her status as a top athlete in the sport.
After a successful career, Elisabeth retired in twenty twenty-two, following her exclusion from the Canadian team for the twenty twenty-one to twenty-two season. Transitioning from athlete to leader, she now serves on the Executive Committee of the International Bobsleigh & Skeleton Federation (IBSF) and was elected to the World Anti-Doping Agency Athletes Council in early twenty twenty-five.
Through her company, the Global Association of Sports Directors (GASD), Maier continues to advocate for good governance in international sports, educating both current and future leaders in the field. Her commitment to the integrity of sports remains a driving force in her post-competitive career.
