Elisabeth of Romania

Elisabeth of Romania, born on October twelfth, nineteen ninety-four, was the second child and eldest daughter of King Ferdinand I and Queen Marie of Romania. Raised by her great-uncle and great-aunt, King Carol I and Queen Elisabeth, she grew up in a royal environment that shaped her future. Despite her noble lineage, Elisabeth was an introvert, often feeling socially isolated.

In nineteen twenty-one, she became the crown princess of Greece upon her marriage to King George II. However, her feelings for him were lukewarm, and she faced significant political turmoil in her adopted country following World War I. When George ascended to the Greek throne in nineteen twenty-two, Elisabeth dedicated herself to aiding refugees arriving in Athens after the Greco-Turkish War. The revolutionary climate took a toll on her health, prompting her and George to leave Greece in December nineteen twenty-three.

Settling in Bucharest, their relationship deteriorated, leading to their divorce in nineteen thirty-five. Close to her brother, Carol II of Romania, Elisabeth amassed a considerable fortune, aided by financial advice from her lover, banker Alexandru Scanavi. Following her mother's death in nineteen thirty-eight and her brother's abdication in nineteen forty, she assumed the role of First Lady of Romania.

After World War II, Elisabeth forged connections with the Romanian Communist Party and conspired against her nephew, King Michael I, earning her the moniker of the 'Red Aunt.' Despite her political affiliations, she was expelled from Romania when the Romanian People's Republic was established in nineteen forty-seven. Subsequently, she relocated to Switzerland and later to Cannes, France, where she engaged in a romantic relationship with Marc Favrat, a would-be artist nearly thirty years her junior, whom she adopted shortly before her death in nineteen fifty-six.
