Élisabeth Thible, born on 8 March 1757 in Lyon, France, was a pioneering figure in the world of aviation and the arts. As an opera singer, she captivated audiences with her talent, but it was her adventurous spirit that would etch her name in history.

On 4 June 1784, Thible made a remarkable achievement by becoming the first woman to fly in an untethered hot air balloon. Accompanied by Monsieur Fleurant, she ascended in a balloon named La Gustave, a tribute to King Gustav III of Sweden, who was visiting Lyon at the time. This flight occurred just eight months after the first crewed balloon flight, marking a significant milestone in the era of human flight.
