Ellen van Dijk

Ellen van Dijk, born on February 11, 1987, is a distinguished Dutch professional cyclist renowned for her exceptional prowess in road racing. Currently riding for the UCI Women's WorldTeam Lidl–Trek, she has made a significant mark in the cycling world, particularly as a time trial specialist. Her journey in cycling began as a cross-training activity during her speed skating days, where she showcased her talent at a national junior level.

Van Dijk's cycling career took a pivotal turn in 2007 when she clinched her fifth national cycling championship, prompting her to transition to cycling full-time. Her dedication and skill quickly propelled her to international acclaim, culminating in her first world title in the scratch race at the 2008 World Championships. Over the years, she has amassed an impressive collection of accolades, including three Road World Championships in 2012, 2013, and 2016, and five world titles overall.

In addition to her world titles, Van Dijk has twice been crowned European track champion and has triumphed as the European time trial champion on three occasions. Her competitive spirit shone brightly at the inaugural European Games in 2015, where she secured a gold medal in the time trial and a silver in the team time trial at the world championships.

Her Olympic journey in 2012 was remarkable, as she competed in three disciplines at the London Games. Notably, she played a crucial role in helping fellow cyclist Marianne Vos secure the gold medal in the road race, while also achieving eighth place in the time trial and sixth in the team pursuit.
