Eluned Morgan

Eluned Morgan, born on February sixteenth, nineteen sixty-seven, is a prominent Welsh politician who has made history as the first woman and the first member of the House of Lords to serve as First Minister of Wales. Since taking office in two thousand twenty-four, she has also assumed the role of Leader of Welsh Labour, marking a significant shift in the party's direction.

Before her tenure as First Minister, Morgan held the position of Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care from two thousand twenty-one to two thousand twenty-four. Her political journey began in the House of Lords in two thousand eleven, and she has been a member of the Senedd since two thousand sixteen. Additionally, she served as a Member of the European Parliament from nineteen ninety-four to two thousand nine.

Fluent in Welsh, Morgan has held various ministerial roles, including Minister for the Welsh Language from two thousand seventeen to two thousand twenty-one and Minister for Mental Health and Wellbeing from two thousand twenty to two thousand twenty-one. Currently, she is on a leave of absence from the House of Lords.

As the leader of Welsh Labour and First Minister, Morgan has revitalized the party's clear red water strategy, a political approach used by her predecessors. This strategy aims to realign Welsh Labour with the political left, distancing it from the centrist policies of the UK Labour leadership under Keir Starmer, with whom she has publicly disagreed on several issues.
