Elvan Abeylegesse, born on September eleventh, nineteen eighty-two, is a distinguished former middle and long-distance runner who represented Turkey in international competitions. Originally hailing from Ethiopia, she showcased her exceptional talent across various distances, from the 1500 metres to the marathon, and also excelled in cross country events.
Abeylegesse made her mark in athletics by setting a world record in the 5000 metres with an impressive time of fourteen minutes and twenty-four point sixty-eight seconds. Her remarkable achievements on the track earned her recognition and accolades, solidifying her status as one of the elite athletes of her time.
However, her career faced a significant setback in August two thousand fifteen when the Turkish Athletics Federation announced that she had failed an anti-doping test conducted during the two thousand seven World Championships. As a result, she was stripped of her results from two thousand seven to two thousand nine, which included two Olympic medals and one World Championship medal, and was subsequently banned from athletics for two years.
