Emanuel Adler

Emanuel Adler, a distinguished Uruguayan political scientist, has made significant contributions to the field of international relations. Currently, he holds the prestigious Andrea and Charles Bronfman Chair in Israel Studies at the University of Toronto, where he also serves as a university teacher. In addition to his teaching role, Adler is the editor of the esteemed journal International Organization and an honorary professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Copenhagen.

Adler's academic journey began in Israel, where he moved in nineteen seventy and pursued his studies at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in History and International Relations, followed by a Master of Arts in International Relations. In nineteen seventy-six, he relocated to the United States, culminating in a Doctorate in Political Science from the University of California at Berkeley in nineteen eighty-two.

Renowned for his association with constructivism in international relations theory, Adler's most cited work, "Seizing the middle ground: Constructivism in world politics," articulates the position of constructivism as a bridge between rationalist approaches, such as realism and liberalism, and interpretive approaches, including postmodernist and critical theories. His insights have significantly shaped contemporary discourse in the field.

In recognition of his scholarly achievements, Adler was honored as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada in two thousand thirteen. Furthermore, in two thousand seventeen, he played a pivotal role in the establishment of the Latin American Political Science Congress, furthering the dialogue and collaboration among political scientists in the region.
