Emerich Jenei

Emerich Jenei, born on March 22, 1937, is a distinguished figure in Romanian football, celebrated for his dual roles as a player and a manager. His career spanned over two decades, during which he showcased his talents on the field for various clubs in Romania and Turkey, as well as representing the Romanian national team.

Transitioning from player to coach, Jenei made a significant impact in the managerial realm, earning recognition as one of Romania's finest alongside notable names such as Ștefan Kovács, Mircea Lucescu, and Anghel Iordănescu. His most remarkable achievement came in 1986 when he led Steaua București to victory in the European Cup, solidifying his legacy in the sport.

In addition to his European triumph, Jenei's domestic success is noteworthy. He is tied as the second most successful manager in Romania, having clinched the Romanian championship six times with Steaua București. This places him alongside Dan Petrescu, while Nicolae Dumitru holds the record with seven championships, all won with Dinamo București.
