Hunyady's international debut came in nineteen seventy-nine, and she quickly transitioned from junior competitions to senior tournaments, showcasing her remarkable talent.

The pinnacle of her career came in nineteen ninety-four, a year that solidified her legacy in the sport. Although her successes became less frequent in the years that followed, she surprised many by winning the World Single Distance Championships in her favorite event, the 1500 m, in nineteen ninety-nine.
Hunyady's Olympic journey spanned six Winter Games from nineteen eighty-four to two thousand two, during which she garnered numerous national titles in both Hungary and Austria. Interestingly, she began her athletic career in figure skating, a discipline she occasionally showcased during her celebrations as a speed skater.
