Emil Väre

Emil Väre, born on September twenty-eighth, eighteen eighty-five, was a distinguished Finnish amateur wrestler who made his mark in the early twentieth century. He achieved remarkable success in the lightweight class, securing gold medals at both the 1912 and 1920 Summer Olympics, showcasing his exceptional talent on the world stage.

In addition to his Olympic triumphs, Väre held the prestigious title of World Champion in nineteen eleven and claimed the unofficial European title in nineteen twelve. His prowess in the sport was further demonstrated by winning national titles in nineteen oh nine and nineteen eleven. Between nineteen twelve and nineteen sixteen, he maintained an impressive record, winning every wrestling bout he participated in.

After his illustrious Olympic career, Väre transitioned into a role as a wrestling referee and coach, contributing to the sport in new ways. Throughout the nineteen twenties, he was actively involved in his wrestling club, Viipurin Voimailijat, serving in various capacities including president, general secretary, treasurer, and vice-president. His dedication extended to the Finnish Wrestling Federation, where he served as a board member, further solidifying his legacy in the wrestling community.
