Emiliano Sala, born on October 31, 1990, was an Argentine professional footballer renowned for his role as a striker. His journey in football began in Argentina, where he honed his skills in youth football before making a brief foray into Portugal's regional leagues. Sala's professional career took off in France with Bordeaux, where he made his debut in February 2012.
Despite facing challenges in securing a spot in the first team at Bordeaux, Sala's talent shone through during loan spells at Orléans and Niort, where he netted an impressive thirty-nine goals combined. His successful performances led to a return to Bordeaux, but after a short period, he found himself on loan again, this time to Caen.
In 2015, Sala made a significant move to Nantes, where he truly flourished. Over more than one hundred appearances in Ligue 1, he established himself as a prolific scorer, finishing as the club's top goalscorer for three consecutive seasons. His remarkable form caught the attention of Cardiff City, leading to a record transfer in January 2019 for a fee of fifteen million pounds.
Tragically, Sala's life was cut short when he was killed in a plane crash on January 21, 2019, while traveling from Nantes to Cardiff. The initial search for the wreckage was extensive but unsuccessful, covering over four thousand four hundred square kilometers of the English Channel. It wasn't until February 3, 2019, that the wreckage was discovered, and Sala's body was recovered shortly thereafter.
