Emma Pooley, born on October third, nineteen eighty-two, is a distinguished British-Swiss athlete renowned for her versatility across multiple sports. Initially making her mark as a professional cyclist, she specialized in time trials and hilly races, achieving remarkable success including an Olympic silver medal in the time trial at the two thousand eight Beijing Games and being crowned world time trial champion in two thousand ten.

Transitioning from cycling, Pooley embraced endurance running, duathlon, and triathlon, where she excelled as a four-time world champion in long-distance duathlon. Her prowess in long-distance and uphill mountain running has also seen her represent Switzerland at the world trail running championships, further showcasing her athletic range.

After retiring from professional cycling post the two thousand fourteen Commonwealth Games, Pooley shifted her focus to triathlon and long-distance running, clinching victories at the Lausanne Marathon and the Swissman triathlon. She continued to dominate in duathlon, winning the ITU Powerman Duathlon World Championships in both two thousand fourteen and two thousand fifteen.

In December two thousand fifteen, Pooley announced her return to cycling, aiming to qualify for the two thousand sixteen Summer Olympics in Rio, drawn by the challenging mountainous time trial course.
