Emperor Ai of Tang

Emperor Ai of Tang, born Li Zuo and later known as Li Chu, was the last emperor of the Tang dynasty, reigning from 904 to 907. Born on September twenty-seventh, eight hundred ninety-two, he ascended to the throne at the tender age of eleven following the assassination of his father, Emperor Zhaozong, orchestrated by the powerful warlord Zhu Quanzhong.

During his brief reign, Emperor Ai was effectively a puppet ruler, with the Tang court in Luoyang under the control of Zhu's appointed officials. In a chilling display of power, Zhu instigated the young emperor to summon around thirty senior aristocrats to Baima Station, where they were ordered to commit suicide, their bodies discarded into the Yellow River. This tragic event marked the beginning of a reign filled with violence and betrayal.

As the years progressed, Emperor Ai witnessed the brutal murder of his own brothers and mother, all orchestrated by Zhu. In the year nine hundred seven, Zhu made his final move against the young emperor, forcing him to abdicate. Following his abdication, Emperor Ai was given the title of Prince of Jiyin in Zhu's newly established Later Liang dynasty.

Tragically, the young emperor's life was cut short when he was poisoned by Zhu in nine hundred eight, at the age of fifteen. His reign, though brief, was marked by the stark realities of power struggles and the tragic fate of a boy thrust into a world of political machinations.
