Emperor Go-Nijō

Emperor Go-Nijō, born on March ninth in the year one thousand two hundred eighty-five, holds the distinguished title of the ninety-fourth emperor of Japan, as recognized by the traditional order of succession. His reign, which spanned from the year one thousand three hundred one until his passing in one thousand three hundred eight, marked a significant period in the history of the Japanese imperial lineage.

This sovereign, who ruled during the fourteenth century, was named in honor of the twelfth-century Emperor Nijō. The prefix 'go-' (後) translates to 'later,' which leads to his designation as the 'Later Emperor Nijō.' In some historical texts, he may also be referred to as 'Nijō, the second' or 'Nijo II,' reflecting the continuity and legacy of the imperial family.
