Emperor Go-Uda

Emperor Go-Uda, born on December seventeenth in the year one thousand two hundred sixty-seven, was the 91st emperor of Japan, recognized in the traditional order of succession. His reign, which lasted from one thousand two hundred seventy-four to one thousand two hundred eighty-seven, marked a significant period in the history of the Japanese imperial lineage.

This thirteenth-century sovereign was named in honor of the ninth-century Emperor Uda. The prefix 'go-' (後) translates to 'later,' which is why he is often referred to as the 'Later Emperor Uda.' In some historical texts, he may also be identified as 'Emperor Uda, the second' or 'Emperor Uda II,' reflecting his connection to his predecessor.

Before ascending to the throne, Go-Uda was known for his dedication to Buddhism, serving as a monk. His spiritual pursuits and leadership during his reign contributed to the cultural and religious landscape of Japan during a time of transition and development.
