Emperor Qinzong of Song, born Zhao Huan on May twenty-third, one thousand one hundred, was the ninth emperor of the Song dynasty and the last ruler of the Northern Song dynasty. As the eldest son of Emperor Huizong and Empress Wang, he was groomed for leadership from a young age, inheriting a legacy steeped in cultural and political significance.
In the year one thousand one hundred twenty-six, the Northern Song faced a dire threat as the Jurchen-led Jin dynasty launched an invasion, culminating in the first siege of Bianjing. Amidst the chaos, Emperor Huizong, overwhelmed by fear, contemplated fleeing the capital. However, he was persuaded by his officials to abdicate the throne to his son, Qinzong, before seeking refuge himself.
