Emperor Sakuramachi

Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Emperor Sakuramachi

Emperor Sakuramachi, born on February eighth, seventeen twenty, ascended to the throne in seventeen thirty-five as the one hundred fifteenth emperor of Japan. His reign, which lasted until his abdication in seventeen forty-seven, unfolded during a time when the Tokugawa shogunate held significant power over the nation. Despite the limited duties assigned to him as a sovereign, Sakuramachi's role was primarily that of a religious figure.

Significantly, Emperor Sakuramachi was granted permission by the Shōgun to reinstate certain Imperial rites that had been absent for over two and a half centuries. This restoration included the revival of important ceremonies, such as the Harvest Festival, marking a notable shift in the ceremonial landscape of the Edo period.

In his personal life, Sakuramachi had one wife and a concubine, with whom he fathered four children. His legacy continued through his first son, who would later become Emperor Momozono, and his second daughter, who ascended to the throne as Empress Go-Sakuramachi.

Emperor Sakuramachi passed away on May twenty-eighth, seventeen fifty, nearly three years after stepping down from his imperial duties. His reign and subsequent abdication left a lasting impact on the Imperial family and the cultural practices of Japan.
