Emperor Shijō

Emperor Shijō, born on March 17, 1231, ascended to the throne as the eighty-seventh emperor of Japan. His reign, which lasted from 1232 to 1242, was marked by the complexities of the Kamakura period, a time characterized by the rise of the samurai class and significant political shifts.
