Empress Genshō

Empress Genshō, born in the year six hundred eighty, holds a significant place in Japanese history as the forty-fourth monarch of Japan. Her reign, which lasted from seven hundred fifteen to seven hundred twenty-four, marked a pivotal era in the nation's governance.

As the fifth of eight women to ascend to the role of empress regnant, Genshō stands out as the only female monarch in Japan's history to inherit her title from another empress regnant, rather than from a male predecessor.
