Enric Prat de la Riba

Enric Prat de la Riba, born on November twenty-ninth, eighteen seventy, was a prominent Spanish politician, lawyer, journalist, and essayist. He played a pivotal role in the early formulation of Catalan nationalism as a member of the Centre Escolar Catalanista, where he contributed to defining the movement's core principles.

On April sixth, nineteen fourteen, Prat de la Riba became the first President of the Commonwealth of Catalonia, a position he held until his passing in nineteen seventeen. His leadership was instrumental in advocating for greater autonomy for Catalonia, a vision he articulated in his influential book and political manifesto, La nacionalitat catalana.

As one of the key architects of the resurgence of Catalan national consciousness in the nineteenth century, he was also involved in drafting the Bases de Manresa in eighteen ninety-two. This foundational document laid out a proposed framework for self-government in Catalonia, marking a significant milestone in the region's political history.

Enric Prat de la Riba's legacy endures, and he is interred in the Montjuïc Cemetery in Barcelona, a testament to his lasting impact on Catalan identity and politics.
