Epenetus of Carthage

Epenetus of Carthage, a revered figure in both the Greek Orthodox and Roman Catholic Churches, is celebrated as one of the seventy disciples of Christ. His significance is highlighted in the sixteenth chapter of St. Paul's letter to the Romans, where he is affectionately referred to as 'my beloved' and recognized as the 'first convert in the Province of Asia.'

Originally a convert to Christianity in Ephesus, Epenetus's journey of faith led him to a prominent role in the early Church. Historical accounts suggest that he may have served as the first Bishop of Carthage or Cartagena, a position that underscores his leadership and dedication to spreading the teachings of Christ.

In the lists of the seventy disciples compiled by Pseudo-Dorotheus and Pseudo-Hippolytus, Epenetus is prominently featured, further solidifying his legacy within the Christian tradition. His contributions to the faith are commemorated by the Greek Orthodox Church on January 4, alongside the Seventy, and again on July 30, in remembrance with Apostles Silas, Silvanus, Crescens, and Andronicus.
