Eric Chu

Eric Chu, born on June seventh, nineteen sixty-one, is a prominent Taiwanese politician, statistician, and academic. Hailing from a political family in Taoyuan, he pursued higher education at National Taiwan University before earning his doctorate from New York University in nineteen ninety-one. His academic career began as an accounting professor, but he soon transitioned into the political arena.

In nineteen ninety-nine, Chu entered politics as a member of the Legislative Yuan. His political journey continued as he served as the magistrate of Taoyuan County from two thousand one to two thousand nine. Following this, he held the position of vice premier of the Republic of China under Wu Den-yih from two thousand nine to two thousand ten, before being elected as the first mayor of New Taipei in two thousand ten.

On January seventeenth, two thousand fifteen, Chu was elected unopposed as the chairman of the Kuomintang, succeeding Ma Ying-jeou. He later became the KMT candidate for the two thousand sixteen presidential election, replacing Hung Hsiu-chu. Despite his efforts, he was defeated by Tsai Ing-wen and subsequently resigned from his role as KMT chairman.

After a period away from the leadership role, Chu returned to the forefront of the Kuomintang in two thousand twenty-one, reclaiming his position as chairman of the party. His journey reflects a blend of academic prowess and political dedication, marking him as a significant figure in Taiwanese politics.
