Eric Robert Rudolph, born on September 19, 1966, is infamously known as the Olympic Park Bomber. An American domestic terrorist, he orchestrated a series of devastating bombings across the Southern United States from nineteen ninety-six to nineteen ninety-eight. His attacks resulted in the tragic loss of two lives and left over one hundred individuals injured, with the most notorious being the bombing at the Centennial Olympic Park during the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta.
Rudolph's motivations were rooted in his vehement opposition to what he perceived as the United States government's endorsement of global socialism and abortion on demand. These beliefs fueled his violent actions, which ultimately led to his designation as one of the FBI's Ten Most Wanted Fugitives for five years.
In 2003, law enforcement apprehended Rudolph, bringing an end to his years of evasion. Following his capture, he entered into a plea bargain in 2005, where he pled guilty to multiple state and federal homicide charges. In exchange for avoiding a trial that could have resulted in a death sentence, he accepted four consecutive life sentences.
Currently, Eric Rudolph is incarcerated at the ADX Florence supermax prison located near Florence, Colorado, where he continues to serve his sentence for the heinous crimes he committed.
