Erich von Däniken

Erich von Däniken, born on April 14, 1935, is a Swiss writer and ufologist renowned for his controversial theories regarding extraterrestrial influences on early human culture. His most notable work, Chariots of the Gods?, published in 1968, catapulted him into the limelight and established him as a prominent figure in the realm of pseudoscientific literature.

Throughout his career, Däniken has been a pivotal advocate for the paleo-contact and ancient astronaut hypotheses, which suggest that ancient civilizations were visited by extraterrestrial beings. Despite his popularity, his ideas have faced significant criticism and rejection from the scientific community, which categorizes his work as pseudohistory, pseudoarchaeology, and pseudoscience.

In addition to his writing, Däniken co-founded the Archaeology, Astronautics and SETI Research Association (AAS RA) and was instrumental in the creation of Mystery Park, a theme park in Interlaken, Switzerland, that opened in May two thousand three. His journey has not been without controversy; early in his career, he was convicted of fraud and embezzlement, serving time in prison where he penned one of his books.
