Érik Canuel

Érik Canuel, born on April 30, 1961, in Montreal, Quebec, was a prominent Canadian film and television director and screenwriter. He was the son of actor Yvan Canuel and began his creative journey in the mid-1980s, initially making music videos for notable artists such as Paul Piché, Sass Jordan, and Sylvain Cossette. His talent soon led him to direct award-winning television commercials, paving the way for his work on series like Big Wolf on Campus and The Hunger.

In the year 2000, Canuel achieved significant recognition with his IMAX film Hemingway: A Portrait, which won a Genie Award for best short documentary and the Maximum Image Award for best 2D film at the Miami Aventura Imax Days. His filmography includes titles such as Matthew Blackheart: Monster Smasher, The Pig's Law, and the bilingual comedy Bon Cop, Bad Cop, released in 2006. This film, which humorously explored the dynamics between a francophone and an anglophone detective, garnered numerous nominations and awards, solidifying Canuel's reputation in the industry.

Throughout his career, Canuel continued to contribute to television, directing episodes of series like Being Erica and the collective film 9 in 2016. In 2020, he directed the final four episodes of the first season of Transplant, showcasing his versatility and commitment to storytelling.
