Erik Larsson (skier)

Erik Larsson, born on April twentieth, nineteen twelve, was a distinguished Swedish cross-country skier who made his mark in the 1930s. He achieved remarkable success at the 1936 Winter Olympics held in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, where he secured a gold medal in the eighteen-kilometer event and a bronze in the four by ten-kilometer relay. His outstanding performance that year earned him the prestigious Svenska Dagbladet Gold Medal.

Larsson's athletic prowess was further demonstrated at the 1935 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships, where he clinched a bronze medal in the four by ten-kilometer relay. His dedication to the sport was evident, but his life took a significant turn in nineteen thirty-nine after a prayer meeting in Kurravaara, leading him to abandon his skiing career.

Born as the second youngest of six siblings in a devout Finnish-speaking family, Larsson's early life was shaped by strong religious values. He worked as a cleaner at the Kiruna iron ore mine during the summer months and as a lumberjack in the winter, balancing his labor with his passion for skiing.

After leaving competitive skiing, Larsson became a preacher in the Firstborn Laestadian congregation in Kiruna, dedicating his life to his faith. His legacy continued through his family, with his son Lars also becoming a preacher in Luleå, and his granddaughter Åsa Larsson establishing herself as a tax lawyer and a writer of crime novels.
