Erika Salumäe

Erika Salumäe, born on June eleventh, nineteen sixty-two, in Pärnu, Estonia, is a distinguished track bicycle racer and politician. She made history by winning the first Olympic gold medal for Estonia in fifty-six years after the country regained its independence in nineteen ninety-one. Salumäe's journey in cycling began at VSS Kalev in Tallinn, where she honed her skills and prepared for international competition.

Her remarkable talent was evident early on, as she achieved significant success at the 1983 Summer Universiade, securing two gold medals in the women's sprint and women's five hundred meter time trial, along with a silver in the women's points race. Salumäe's Olympic career flourished when she competed for the USSR team at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, where she clinched the gold medal. She continued to shine at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, representing her homeland of Estonia.
