Ernie Els

Ernie Els, born on October 17, 1969, is a distinguished South African professional golfer renowned for his remarkable achievements in the sport. Known affectionately as 'The Big Easy' due to his impressive stature and smooth golf swing, Els has captivated audiences and fellow competitors alike throughout his career.

With over seventy career victories, Els has secured his place in golfing history by winning four major championships. His triumphs include the U.S. Open in 1994 at Oakmont and again in 1997 at Congressional, as well as The Open Championship in 2002 at Muirfield and in 2012 at Royal Lytham & St Annes. He stands out as one of only six golfers to have won both the U.S. Open and The Open Championship on two occasions.

Beyond his major wins, Els has topped the European Tour Order of Merit in both 2003 and 2004, and he holds the record for winning the World Match Play Championship an impressive seven times. He was the leading career money winner on the European Tour until 2011 and was the first golfer to surpass twenty-five million euros in earnings from European Tour events.

Els has held the prestigious number one position in the Official World Golf Ranking and maintained a record of weeks ranked in the top ten, totaling seven hundred eighty-eight until 2013. His victory at the 2012 Open Championship propelled him to fifteenth in the world rankings. In recognition of his outstanding contributions to golf, he was elected to the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2010 and was inducted in May 2011. Currently, Els primarily competes on the PGA Tour Champions.
