Espen Barth Eide

Espen Barth Eide, born on May first, nineteen sixty-four, is a prominent Norwegian politician and political scientist. Currently, he holds the esteemed position of Minister of Foreign Affairs in the government led by Jonas Gahr Støre, having previously served in this role under Jens Stoltenberg. Eide has been a member of the Norwegian Parliament for Oslo since two thousand seventeen, representing the Labour Party, and was re-elected in the two thousand twenty-one election.

From two thousand seventeen to two thousand twenty-one, Eide was the Labour Party's spokesperson for Energy, Climate, and Environment. He also held the position of Minister of Climate and the Environment from two thousand twenty-one to two thousand twenty-three, showcasing his commitment to addressing critical environmental issues.

In addition to his national roles, Barth Eide was appointed as the United Nations special adviser on Cyprus on August twenty-second, two thousand fourteen, by former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. He continued in this capacity under Secretary-General António Guterres until August fourteenth, two thousand seventeen, when he stepped down to focus on the election campaign in Norway.

His career also includes significant international experience, having served as managing director and a member of the managing board at the World Economic Forum in Geneva from two thousand fourteen to two thousand sixteen. Furthermore, he was Norway's Minister of Defence in Stoltenberg's Second Cabinet from two thousand eleven to two thousand twelve, and subsequently as Minister of Foreign Affairs until two thousand thirteen. Since December two thousand thirteen, he has been a member of the board of the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue, serving as chair until October fourteenth, two thousand twenty-one.
