In nineteen ninety, she took on the role of adjunct professor at the University of Rochester while continuing her work at Xerox. By nineteen ninety-eight, she transitioned to a full-time faculty position at the University of Rochester, where she concentrated on the flow of electrons through DNA.

Conwell's prolific output included over two hundred seventy published papers and several influential textbooks, with her work, High Field Transport in Semiconductors, becoming a definitive reference in the field.
