Eugen Langen

Eugen Langen, born on October ninth, eighteen thirty-three, was a notable German entrepreneur and inventor whose contributions significantly impacted engineering and industry. He is best remembered for his pioneering work in the development of the petrol engine and the innovative Wuppertal Suspension Railway.

In eighteen fifty-seven, Langen began his career in his family's sugar factory, JJ Langen & Söhne. His technical training at the Polytechnic Institute in Karlsruhe equipped him with the skills necessary to revolutionize sugar production. He patented a method for producing sugar cubes, a process that would later gain international recognition.

In eighteen seventy, Langen co-founded Pfeifer & Langen, a company that remains operational to this day. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to sell his sugar cube production method in eighteen seventy-two to Sir Henry Tate, the founder of the Tate Gallery in London, further solidifying his legacy in the sugar industry.
