Eugene Melnyk

Eugene Melnyk, born on May 27, 1959, was a prominent Canadian businessman and philanthropist, best known for his influential role in the world of professional hockey. He served as the owner, governor, and chairman of the Ottawa Senators, a team in the National Hockey League, as well as the Belleville Senators in the American Hockey League.

Melnyk was the founder, chairman, and CEO of Biovail Corporation, which at one time stood as Canada's largest publicly traded pharmaceutical company, boasting annual revenues exceeding one billion Canadian dollars. By the year 2010, he had divested nearly all of his holdings in the company, marking a significant transition in his business career.
