After serving as a professor of philosophy at the liceo scientifico Stanislao Cannizzaro in Palermo and the University of Cagliari, Garin returned to his alma mater in nineteen forty-nine. He taught there until nineteen seventy-four, after which he moved to the prestigious Scuola Normale di Pisa, where he continued to inspire students until his retirement in nineteen eighty-four.

Garin's contributions to the field were further recognized when he inaugurated the Graduate School of Historical Studies at San Marino with a public lecture on September thirtieth, nineteen eighty-nine. His scholarly influence extended beyond Italy, as he became an elected member of both the American Philosophical Society and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
