Euronymous

Øystein Aarseth, known to the world as Euronymous, was born on March 22, 1968, and became a pivotal figure in the Norwegian black metal scene. As a co-founder and guitarist of the influential band Mayhem, he played a crucial role in shaping the genre from its inception in 1984 until his untimely death in 1993. Euronymous was the only constant member of the band, navigating the turbulent waters of the extreme music landscape.

Beyond his musical contributions, Euronymous was an entrepreneur, establishing the record label Deathlike Silence Productions and the infamous record shop Helvete. His ventures not only showcased his passion for music but also helped to promote the underground black metal movement, fostering a community of like-minded artists and fans.

Known for his theistic Satanist beliefs, Euronymous often made provocative and misanthropic statements, positioning himself as the leader of a cult-like group referred to as the 'Black Metal Inner Circle.' His controversial persona and artistic vision left a lasting impact on the genre, influencing countless musicians and fans alike.

Tragically, Euronymous's life was cut short when he was murdered on August 10, 1993, by fellow musician and former bandmate Varg Vikernes. His legacy, however, continues to resonate within the metal community, marking him as a significant figure in the history of black metal.
