Eva Brunne

Eva Brunne, born on March seventh, nineteen fifty-four, is a distinguished theologian and Lutheran pastor who has made significant contributions to the Church of Sweden. Her journey in the church culminated in her role as the Bishop of Stockholm, a position she held from two thousand nine until two thousand nineteen.

Brunne is notably recognized as the first openly lesbian bishop of a mainstream church globally, breaking barriers and paving the way for greater inclusivity within religious institutions. Her leadership and advocacy for LGBTQ+ rights have inspired many and brought attention to the importance of acceptance in faith communities.

In addition to her groundbreaking role as a bishop, she is also the first bishop of the Church of Sweden to enter into a registered same-sex partnership, further solidifying her commitment to equality and representation within the church.
