Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Eva Cassidy

Eva Cassidy, born on February second, nineteen sixty-three, was an extraordinary American singer and musician celebrated for her soulful interpretations of jazz, folk, and blues. With a powerful and emotive soprano voice, she captivated audiences, particularly in her native Washington, D.C. Despite her immense talent, Cassidy remained relatively unknown outside her local area until after her untimely death from melanoma at the age of thirty-three in nineteen ninety-six.

In nineteen ninety-two, Cassidy released her debut album, The Other Side, featuring duets with go-go musician Chuck Brown. This was followed by a live solo album, Live at Blues Alley, in nineteen ninety-six. Although she received recognition from the Washington Area Music Association, it was not until two years posthumously that her music began to gain traction internationally.

The turning point for Cassidy's legacy came when her renditions of "Fields of Gold" and "Over the Rainbow" were played on BBC Radio 2 by Mike Harding and Terry Wogan, introducing her to British audiences. The overwhelming response led to a camcorder recording of her performance of "Over the Rainbow" being featured on BBC Two's Top of the Pops 2. This exposure resulted in the compilation album Songbird reaching the top of the UK Albums Chart, nearly three years after its initial release.

Following this newfound recognition, Cassidy's posthumous recordings achieved remarkable success, with three number-one albums and one number-one single in the UK, selling over ten million copies worldwide. Her music also charted in the top ten in countries such as Australia, Germany, Norway, Sweden, and Switzerland. To date, nine posthumous albums have been released, with the latest, I Can Only Be Me, a collaboration with the London Symphony Orchestra, debuting in twenty twenty-three and reaching number nine on the UK album chart.
