Eva Kaili

Eva Kaili, born on October twenty-sixth, nineteen seventy-eight, is a notable Greek figure who has made significant contributions as a journalist, politician, architect, and television presenter. Her political journey began in the Hellenic Parliament, where she served from two thousand seven to two thousand twelve, before transitioning to the European Parliament as a Member of Parliament (MEP) from two thousand fourteen until two thousand twenty-four.

In January two thousand twenty-two, Kaili was appointed as one of the fourteen vice presidents of the European Parliament, a role she held until her arrest in December two thousand twenty-two. This arrest was part of the Qatar corruption scandal that shook the European Parliament, leading to serious allegations of corruption against her.

Prior to her political career, Kaili was a prominent news presenter for MEGA Channel, a leading Greek television network, from two thousand four to two thousand seven. Following her arrest on December ninth, two thousand twenty-two, she spent time in pre-trial detention in Brussels, later being placed under house arrest with an electronic bracelet until May twenty-fifth, two thousand twenty-three. Throughout this ordeal, Kaili has consistently denied all charges through her legal representatives.

In September two thousand twenty-three, she initiated an internal inquiry regarding the collection of evidence against her, although a ruling by the Court of Appeal in February two thousand twenty-six confirmed that the investigation was conducted properly. Notably, Kaili chose not to seek re-election in the upcoming two thousand twenty-four European Parliament election.
