She made history as the first woman to be elected Grand Chief of the Conseil de la Nation Atikamekw, breaking barriers and paving the way for future generations of Indigenous women in leadership roles.

In addition to her role as Grand Chief, Eva Ottawa was the first Indigenous woman to lead the Conseil du statut de la femme du Québec, showcasing her commitment to advocating for women's rights and Indigenous issues. Her contributions to society have been recognized with prestigious awards, including the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal in two thousand twelve and the Médaille Premiers Peuples in two thousand nineteen.
