Évariste Ndayishimiye, born on June seventeenth, nineteen sixty-eight, is a prominent Burundian politician and military leader. He has held the esteemed position of the tenth President of Burundi since June eighteenth, two thousand twenty, and has been serving as the Chairperson of the African Union since February twenty twenty-six.
Ndayishimiye's political journey began during the tumultuous period of the Burundian Civil War, where he became actively involved with the National Council for the Defense of Democracy – Forces for the Defense of Democracy. His commitment to the cause saw him rise through the ranks of its militia, showcasing his leadership and resilience.
Following the conclusion of the civil conflict, he transitioned into the Burundian Army, where he held various political offices under the leadership of President Pierre Nkurunziza. Nkurunziza recognized Ndayishimiye's potential and endorsed him as his successor in the lead-up to the two thousand twenty elections, a race he won decisively.
