Ewan Beaton, born on July thirteenth, nineteen sixty-nine, is a distinguished male judoka hailing from Canada. He has made significant contributions to the sport, both as an athlete and a coach. Ewan's journey in judo is marked by notable achievements, including a silver medal in the Men's Bantamweight (– 60 kg) division at the 1991 Pan American Games held in Havana, Cuba. In a fierce final match, he was narrowly defeated by Brazil's Shigueto Yamasaki. However, Ewan's perseverance paid off four years later when he captured the gold medal in the same division.
His Olympic journey saw him represent Canada at the Summer Games in both nineteen ninety-two and nineteen ninety-six. Ewan's dedication to the sport extended beyond his competitive years, as he became affiliated with the University of Manitoba, where he further honed his skills and knowledge in judo.
Transitioning into coaching, Ewan took on various roles that showcased his expertise and leadership. From nineteen ninety-seven to two thousand, he served as the High Performance Coach for Judo Saskatchewan. He also held the position of Junior National Coach for Judo Canada from nineteen ninety-nine to two thousand one. His coaching career continued to flourish as he became the High Performance Coach for Judo Manitoba in two thousand and later the Coach Coordinator for Judo Canada until two thousand eight.
In addition to his coaching roles, Ewan played a pivotal part in the Canadian judo scene during the Olympic Games, serving as the Canadian Judo Coach in two thousand four and as the Team Leader for the Canadian Judo Team in two thousand eight. Currently, he is the Alberta Regional Training Center Coach, continuing to inspire and develop the next generation of judokas.
Ewan is also a proud father to his daughter, Evelyn Beaton, who has followed in his footsteps and competed in the Paris Grand Slam in the – 44 kg category.
