Farid Mansurov

Farid Mansurov, born on May 10, 1982, in Dmanisi, Georgia, is a distinguished Azerbaijani wrestler renowned for his remarkable achievements in the sport. He made history by clinching the gold medal in Greco-Roman wrestling at the 2004 Summer Olympic Games, competing in the sixty-six kilogram weight category. His victory not only showcased his exceptional talent but also elevated the profile of Azerbaijani wrestling on the global stage.

After a successful career, Mansurov faced a significant challenge when he sustained a jaw injury during the 2010 European Wrestling Championship, leading to his retirement from competitive wrestling later that year. However, his passion for the sport did not wane; he transitioned into coaching, taking the helm of the Azerbaijani national wrestling team from 2010 to 2011, where he shared his expertise and experience with the next generation of wrestlers.

In 2016, Mansurov took on a pivotal role in promoting sports in Azerbaijan by becoming the head of the sport department in the Ministry of Youth and Sport. His commitment to fostering athletic talent and encouraging youth participation in sports has made a significant impact on the development of wrestling and other sports in the country. Additionally, he serves as the Vice President of the Youth Wrestling Federation of Azerbaijan, further solidifying his dedication to the sport.
