Joshua Michael Tillman, born on May 3, 1981, is an American musician renowned for his unique blend of satirical lyrics and captivating performance style. He began his musical journey in Seattle during the early 2000s, where his demo caught the attention of fellow artist Damien Jurado, leading to an opening slot on Jurado's tour in 2003. Initially performing under the name J. Tillman, he released several albums characterized by a folk sound and deeply personal lyrics.
In 2008, Tillman joined the acclaimed band Fleet Foxes as their drummer, contributing to their second album, Helplessness Blues, released in 2011. After completing the record, he embarked on a new solo venture, adopting the stage name Father John Misty. His debut album, Fear Fun, released in 2012, marked a significant shift in his musical style, showcasing a more indie rock sound infused with sharp wit and satire.
