Fatma Begum

Fatma Begum, born in 1892, was a pioneering figure in Indian cinema, recognized as the first female film director in the industry. Her remarkable journey began with her passion for storytelling, which led her to explore various roles as an actress, director, producer, and screenwriter.

Within a mere four years, Fatma made significant strides in filmmaking, showcasing her multifaceted talent. She established her own production house, initially named Fatma Films, which later evolved into Victoria-Fatma Films. This venture allowed her to take creative control and bring her unique vision to life.

In 1926, she directed her first film, Bulbul-e-Paristan, marking a significant milestone in her career. Her contributions to cinema not only paved the way for future generations of female filmmakers but also enriched the cultural landscape of Indian cinema.
