Faustin-Archange Touadéra, born on April twenty-first, nineteen fifty-seven, is a prominent Central African politician and mathematician. He has held the esteemed position of president of the Central African Republic since March two thousand sixteen, following a successful election campaign that saw him triumph over former prime minister Anicet Georges Dologuélé in the second round of the 2015–16 general election.
Before ascending to the presidency, Touadéra served as the prime minister from two thousand eight to two thousand thirteen. His leadership has been marked by significant challenges, including political violence and low voter turnout during elections. Despite these obstacles, he was re-elected for a second term during the 2020–21 election and is set to run for a third term in the upcoming 2025 Central African election.
Since at least two thousand twenty-three, Touadéra has garnered support from the Wagner Group, a Russian state-sponsored private military company. This backing has included financial assistance for his electoral campaigns and the implementation of disinformation strategies aimed at undermining his political opponents. His administration has faced criticism for repressing opposition voices and for the controversial removal of term limits following the contested 2023 constitutional referendum.
