Federica Montseny

Federica Montseny, born on February twelfth, nineteen oh five, was a prominent Spanish anarchist and intellectual. She played a significant role in the Confederación Nacional del Trabajo (CNT) and made history as the first woman in Spain to serve as a cabinet minister, holding the position of Minister of Health and Social Assistance during the tumultuous period of the Second Spanish Republic and the Spanish Civil War.

Her contributions to politics were groundbreaking, as she was one of the first female ministers in Western Europe. Following the defeat of the anarchist forces in the Civil War, Montseny fled into exile, where she continued her commitment to anarchist principles and activism from abroad.

In nineteen sixty-eight, she was a key delegate at the Congress of Carrara, a significant event in the anarchist movement of the twentieth century, representing the Federación Anarquista Ibérica (FAI). Montseny was not only a political figure but also a prolific writer, having published around fifty short novels that often featured romantic-social themes aimed at women from the proletarian class, alongside various political, ethical, biographical, and autobiographical works.
