Federico Saiz, born on October 14, 1912, in Molledo, Cantabria, was a notable Spanish footballer whose career spanned both sides of the Spanish Civil War. Known affectionately as Fede, his nickname was a tribute to a brother who passed away before his birth.
During his club career, Saiz showcased his talents at Deportivo Alavés and Sevilla FC. His time at these clubs was marked by significant contributions on the field, although his stint with Real Sociedad in 1932 did not see him make any official appearances.
Saiz's international career was highlighted by his representation of the Spain national football team, where he earned three caps in 1934. He participated in the 1934 FIFA World Cup, playing in a memorable match against the hosts and eventual champions, Italy, which ended in a one-all draw. Unfortunately, he did not feature in the subsequent replay that led to Spain's elimination from the tournament.
