Felice Bonetto, born on June ninth, nineteen oh three, was an illustrious Italian racing driver known for his remarkable contributions to both motorcycle and automobile racing. Hailing from Manerbio, Bonetto's journey in motorsport began with motorcycle road racing before he transitioned to Grand Prix motor racing in nineteen thirty-one.
Throughout his career, Bonetto competed in Formula One, participating in sixteen Grands Prix from nineteen fifty to nineteen fifty-three. He earned the affectionate nickname 'il Pirata' and achieved notable success, including two podium finishes at the Italian and Dutch Grands Prix in nineteen fifty-one and nineteen fifty-three, respectively. In the former, he shared the podium with the legendary Giuseppe Farina, while in the latter, he raced alongside José Froilán González.
Bonetto's most significant triumph came in nineteen fifty-two when he won the prestigious Targa Florio with Lancia, solidifying his status as a formidable competitor in sportscar racing. However, his promising career was tragically cut short when he suffered a fatal accident while leading the Carrera Panamericana in nineteen fifty-three, colliding with a lamp post.
