His crowning achievement came in nineteen sixty-eight when he triumphed at the Vuelta a España, making him only the second cyclist in history, after Jacques Anquetil, to win all three Grand Tours: the Tour de France in nineteen sixty-five, the Giro d'Italia in nineteen sixty-seven, nineteen sixty-nine, and nineteen seventy-six, alongside the Vuelta a España.

In addition to his Grand Tour victories, Gimondi showcased his versatility by winning the World Championship road race in nineteen seventy-three. He also excelled in the Cycling monuments, securing victories in the Giro di Lombardia twice and consistently finishing on the podium of grand tours a remarkable twelve times.
