Félicien Rops

Félicien Rops, born on July seventh, eighteen thirty-three, was a distinguished Belgian artist whose work spanned various mediums, including painting, illustration, and printmaking. He is notably associated with the Symbolism and Decadence movements, as well as the vibrant Parisian fin de siècle. A member of the avant-garde group Les XX, Rops was celebrated for his innovative approach to intaglio techniques, particularly etching and aquatint.

Although he may not have been widely recognized by the general public during his lifetime, Rops garnered immense respect among his bohemian contemporaries. Initially sought after for his provocative works, he became a revered illustrator for many prominent authors and poets of his era.
