Félix Éboué

Félix Éboué, born on December twenty-sixth, eighteen eighty-four, was a pioneering French colonial administrator who made significant strides in the French colonies. His appointment as acting governor of Guadeloupe in nineteen thirty-six marked a historic moment, as he became the first black French man to hold such a high position in the colonial administration.

In nineteen forty, Éboué took on the role of governor of Chad, where he distinguished himself by his early and unwavering support for Charles de Gaulle's Free French movement. His leadership was instrumental in the organization and execution of the Brazzaville Conference in nineteen forty-four, which focused on colonial reform and the future of French territories.

Éboué was a strong advocate for the inclusion of educated Africans in the colonial administration, recognizing their potential to contribute to governance. He also championed the preservation of African culture, understanding the importance of cultural identity in the face of colonial pressures.
